Go on a pub crawl with about 20 other people dressed as luchadores
Ok, I'm totally cheating on this one. I retroactively added this to the list. But in my defense, this totally should have been there the whole time.
I have been hanging out at the Tavern in Tempe lately. It's a great place to watch baseball games, their nachos are what every nacho should strive to be, and they have a music video jukebox. And on Tuesdays $2 Coronas. I never want to be a "regular" anywhere, but usually end up there about once a week.
On Monday I went out with the roommates to watch the Diamondbacks beat the Cubs and happened upon a flyer for the goings-on for the following evening. Everyone that wanted to participate was to be given luchador underpants and a luchador mask... for free. Hell yeah, I'm totally there.
So we showed up the next night (I guess I'm not doing too well at this not-becoming-a-regular thing). The thing was supposed to start at six, but they said they weren't handing out the goodies until eight. Which was ok because they had $2 tacos (mahi-mahi even) and the Diamondbacks were beating the Cubs again.
At eight they brought in a big box of masks. I was thinking that since they were giving them out for free, they were going to be pretty crappy. But no, these were pretty awesome. Many of the patrons that had obviously attended the first annual luchador pub crawl last year had gone all out. I wish I would have known that. They had capes with their names in glitter on the back.
So everyone got dressed, put back a couple of beers, and we got going. There is nothing quite like walking into a bar with huge granny-panties outside your shorts and a crazy mask, with 20 other people dressed similarly. We went to the Coconut Club, which was pretty dead, so we filled up the place. Next we went to the Library, which is where the strippers that don't want to admit to their grandmas that they are strippers work. So all the businessmen that were still there avoiding their wives were quite taken aback when we invaded the place. After the Library we went to the bar below... Two Below, which is a dueling piano bar. I have never been there and I would totally go back. It wouldn't be the same without the luchador mask, but I think it would still be fun. We had stayed up pretty late the night before and figured four bars constituted a pub crawl, so we left off at this point. We were taking pictures in front of all the bars we went to and happened upon a little kid with the same luchador mask that I had on. Weirf.
